Smithtown, LI, NY – February 15, 2008 – Kindergarten children at St. Patrick’s School in Smithtown have been busy celebrating the 100th day of school this week. To commemorate the occasion, each student was asked to design his or her own unique 100-Day project. As part of the assignment, students were asked to sort and count 100 small items of their own choice and display their collections on a poster board.


In addition to displaying their artistic talents and math skills, the children even found ways to incorporate the reading and writing skills they have been learning in class since September.

"I am especially proud of all our kindergarten children for the quality of work they turned in for their 100-Day projects," said St. Patrick’s School Principal Mrs. Eileen Sadicario. "What I am most impressed with are the ideas the children came up with for their projects. Each one is unique and different. What’s more extraordinary is how they also demonstrate a working knowledge of the reading, writing and math skills our kindergarten teachers emphasize daily in their classroom activities."


St. Patrick’s School, located at 284 East Main Street in Smithtown, is a Catholic elementary school for nursery through 8th grade and a part of St. Patrick’s R.C. Church under the auspices of the Diocese of Rockville Centre. With a current enrollment of 500 students, St. Patrick’s is a vibrant Christian community. Its administration, faculty and staff are inspired by the Catholic faith and devoted to Christian values and respect for the uniqueness of each individual. During Lent, participants in our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program and RCIA Adapted for Children program take part in various rites. Our catechumens (those wishing to be baptized at the Easter Vigil) participated in the Rite of Sending Forth at the 12 noon Mass on Sunday. Fr. Patrick “sent our catechumens forth” to Bishop William Murphy and the Rite of Election that evening at St. Joseph Church in Ronkonkoma. Our three catechumens signed the Book of the Elect. The were accompanied by their sponsors, RCIA team members and family. This week, RCIA participants who have already been baptized will be “sent forth” to Bishop Peter Libasci and the Call to Continuning Conversion which our parish will be hosting.

Families with babies baptized in the months of November and December gathered at the 5 PM Family Mass last Saturday, February 2nd, 2008. Our newest members received a special blessing and the families joined in the final procession.

During the First Friday Mass, one student from each class was honored as Student of the Month. Students selected this month have exhibited the character trait of honesty.
