 Holy Mother Mary Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes held a membership drive the weekend of March 8th, 2009. The Knights and Columbiettes are the force behind many of the charitable works and special events in our parish and in our community.

Joe and Debbie Sowa, along with daughters Stephanie and Allison, were recently named the Holy Mother Mary Knights of Columbus Family of the Year. The Sowa family has devoted countless hours to the Knights and the many causes supported by the council. They have spearheaded many committees including Family Movie Night, the Advent Service, the Children’s Christmas Party, the Halloween Party, the Council Picnic and the council’s Installation Dinner entertainment committee. Congratulations!

Ed has given of himself, following the major principles of the order (Charity, Unity, Fraternity) through his enthusiastic acceptance of roles on numberous committees inluding: the Halloween party, Super Bowl party, orientation of new members, the Beach Mass and the Knights’ softball team. Thank you, Ed, for blessing the Knights, our parish and our community with your efforts.

Laszlo Girhiny(left) and Ken Hogan were recently honored by Holy Mother Mary Knights of Columbus Council #3958 as they became members of the Knights fourth degree, the highest degree of the order. The fourth degree is conferred upon members of the Knights who have demonstrated a high level of service and support to our God, our Country, and the Order. Congratulations!

New officers were installed for the Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes during the Saturday September 6th, 2008, 5 PM Mass last weekend. Fr. Patrick serves as moderator for the Knights, Fr. Jilson for the Columbiettes. This weekend the Knights will be holding a membership drive. Stop by one of the tables after Mass and inquire about the benefits of being a knight.

Holy Mother Mary Knights of Columbus Council #3958 recently named the winners of the Donald J. Burns Scholarship. Each received a $500 award. This years Smithtown Memorial Day Parade was once again sponsored by Holy Mother Mary Knights of Columbus Council #3958. Our Parish Priests and Seminarian John Ryan joined with the Knights as they marched along Main Street on Memorial Day, May 26th, 2008

After attending a 4 AM Mass celebrated by Fr. Jilson, parishioners traveling to the March for Life in Washington were treated to breakfast in Canning Hall by the Knights of Columbus.

January 13th, 2008 the Knight of Columbus held their annual Free Throw Contest. Many thanks to Ed Garrone (pictured in the center), Walter Thomas (PGK), Tom Moran, Brian McGuire, Ignatius Rienzo and Kay Thomas for running the event, as well as the many 10 to 14-year-old participants. Pictured at left are three of the 10-year-old girl participants. The winners of each age division go on to further competition.
